Toxicology Analysis

The sum of what is known regarding poisons; the scientific study of poisons, their actions, their detection, and the treatment of the conditions produced by them. The advancements in toxicology in the last decade have been enormous. With the application of modern and highly refined instrumental capabilities to the field of toxicology, as well as the advancement of knowledge about the effects of drugs and other toxic agents, their metabolism and distribution after both therapeutic and overdose administration, and under conditions of both tolerance and intolerance, have made us capable of very thorough toxologic evaluation of autopsy and clinical specimens. Pathologist must determine the presence (or absence) of drugs or exogenous chemical substances for the proper assessment of the cause and manner of death in autopsy cases.
