Private Autopsies

The post-mortem examination of a dead body to determine the cause of death. From the Greek autopsia, meaning to see for oneself. An autopsy is usually restricted to medical use entailing dissection of a dead body to determine the cause and manner of death, nature of illness or disease, and reassurance that current status and appropriate health care was provided. The autopsy is performed by a pathologist, a medical doctor specially trained to recognize the anatomic and biochemical changes brought about by disease.
